The Best Marriage Proposals

The Best Marriage Proposals

Getting married is an important step in your life and one that often holds the most emotional weight as well. It signifies a union built on trust, compatibility and, of course, love. Looking back, many of us can still remember in full detail how our spouse proposed to us or how we proposed to them.

We are going to take a look at some of the best marriage proposals ever and give those of you who haven’t popped the question just yet, some inspiration, and those of you who are already married something to compare with. Let’s get started.

Best Marriage Proposal Criteria

Before we begin, let’s take a look at some of the criteria we used to create this article. What makes a marriage proposal the best ever? For us, the best marriage proposals all have something in common. Well, four things, actually.

First of all, they should make you cry, or at least bring a tear to your eye. Second, it should be a complete surprise. The bride to be shouldn’t know ahead of time that she is about to be proposed to. Next, the proposal should be based on an elabourate plan. It should have required some effort to pull off. And finally, the best wedding proposals should all end with a ‘yes’.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at some of the best marriage proposals we have ever heard:

Starbucks Love- this is the story about two travel photographers who had established a ritual of leaving notes for each other in airport Starbucks cafes around the world. One day, after six years of dating and leaving these notes, he finally proposed. He left a note for his future bride to ask for a special drink at the counter and when she turned around to do so, there he was, down on one knee to present her with an engagement ring and to pop the question!

A Year in the Making- this proposal took a year to make happen. The groom to be recorded himself asking his girlfriend to marry him every day for a year without her knowing. Finally, he presented her with a tablet containing the video and asked her to press the play button. When she did, she saw him proposing to her while she slept, worked out, showered, watched television and more. She turned to him and saw that we was proposing to her yet again, this time for real and she, of course, said yes!

Flying High- this marriage proposal is definitely more elabourate than most and it required some serious planning. A pilot and his long-time girlfriend were taking a romantic holiday flight when, as he flew over a deserted beach, he asked her to look down. She did and saw the words, “Marry me, Nayia?”, drawn in the sand, large enough to see from above.

Parliamentary Procedure- this proposal is the story of Australian MP Tim Wilson, who interrupted his own speech on same-sex marriage to ask his partner of seven years, Ryan Bolger, to marry him.
