The reason to celebrate friendship day isn’t known, but we do know that the need for it was felt by the effects of first world war.

This occasion was to stop mistrust, hatred, discrimination and enmity among people across many countries. When national friendship day was finally announced a holiday, many countries decided to join the occasion and celebrate friendship day. This international holiday was made to forge a strong bond of friendship among people of various countries, despite their race, colour, gender, religion, ethnicity and many other factors.
